SVM Sponsors MIT Clean Energy Prize
Agency Expands Green Technology Practice with Support for Prestigious Entrepreneurship Competition

PROVIDENCE, RI, May 13, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- SVM, one of New England's most well-respected and longest-standing marketing communications and public relations firms, today announced that it is sponsoring the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Clean Energy Prize, a student business plan competition designed to stimulate clean energy entrepreneurship. The competition, which is open to students nationwide, will award more than $500,000 in cash and other prizes to teams that demonstrate the most promising technologies for renewable or alternative energies. SVM will provide public relations services and counsel to the top five category winners to help them market their innovations.

For more than three decades, SVM has been providing public relations, advertising, branding and marketing communications services to technology and business-to-business companies across the U.S. and abroad. The agency has developed a reputation for successfully launching new companies and for helping more mature organizations introduce new innovations. Over the past several years, SVM has been expanding its portfolio to include clients from multiple sectors that are pioneering next-generation "green" solutions. These green-based technologies and initiatives include:

• A new type of solid state lighting that combines the benefits of both LED and laser technologies to deliver breakthrough brightness and long-life performance while reducing power consumption and hazardous waste.

• An ultra high-efficiency storage device that cuts the energy consumption associated with data storage by 50 percent.

• An advanced optimization platform that enables organizations to make business decisions that allow them to better utilize their resources, thereby achieving efficiencies such as reduced energy consumption.

• A used-vegetable-oil-powered manufacturing plant that is the only one in its industry to generate process energy from waste biofuel.

The agency also counts among its public relations clients the Slater Technology Fund, a state-backed venture capital fund that invests in emerging companies, including those in the clean energy sector.

"SVM has a history of finding the most promising technology companies and working with them to successfully bring their innovations to market. Fifteen years ago, we helped our clients drive the Internet revolution, and we see a similar momentum - and opportunity - happening in green-tech today," said Bob Vetromile, SVM partner and president. " "We are delighted that MIT has tapped us to help them cultivate the next generation of technology entrepreneurs, and we look forward to providing the public relations counsel and support the winning teams will need to transform their ideas into sustainable businesses."
